Update 26th February
We are delighted with Roi's progress, he is such a happy pup & has fitted in with
my canine family so well. He usually comes out & about with me in the van, so is
meeting lots of people & packing lots of experiences into his life. So his social
development is coming on very well. Once his vaccinations are complete he will start
lead training, but I suspect he will complain about that!He sleeps on my bed, usually
with his paw across either my arm or one of the other dogs, & they all adore him.
The Steroid treatment has taken the fluid down enormously. this is fabulous result
as Roi's Neurologist told us that, although only for use in the short term, if he
responded well to them, it would be an excellent indication that surgery will do
the trick.
Please cross post his story to everyone you know.
Thank you
10/02/2011 ~The MRI yesterday revealed he is a good candidate for surgery. The operation
will be a little more complex than we first thought, because he also has a cyst at
the base of his brain, which will have to be dealt with at the same time. I am waiting
for a more formal estimate, but have been advised in the region of £5,000- £5,500.
He is on medical treatment for a month, so we have a small window for fundraising.
I know its a lot of money to spend on one dog, but can you look him in the eyes &
tell him his life is not worth it? - I certainly cant.
10/02/2011 ~ Yesterday we took into our care a rather special little boy. He is a
cavalier puppy who is aged just 14 weeks. Please meet Royston:
Royston has seen our vet today and she has confirmed that he is almost certainly
suffering from hydrocephalus. He has been referred for specialist treatment and he
will receive all the care he needs before he goes to a new home.
However, his treatment will be expensive and we desperately need to raise some funds
to help cover this. If you can help in any way, please visit our Your Support page
to see what you can do.
07/01/2011 Fabulous news
'STITCH' our beautiful portuguese boy is home!
Stitch found me last year, when I was house sitting, for friends in the beautiful
& very rural Alentajo. This clever pup, of around 5 months old must have heard I
was there because he turned up at the house, & literally moved in with me & the resident
dogs.
Not recognised in the nearest village & very different from the local dogs. The consensus
was that he had most likely been driven out from distant town & dumped. Spending
my life rescuing dogs in the UK, there was no way I could turn my back on him. With
no home to take him on & no rescue centre, the only option was to get him passported
& to bring him home.
I had hoped that, if I footed the bills, one of my friends would care for him until
he could travel to the UK, but sadly none of them felt able to help. Luckily I found
the lovely Annette Quayle, who runs 'Le Chenil du Caravelle, ( http://www.kennels.fr/),
in Normandy, France.
Stitch stayed with Annette whilst he gained his passport. I managed to visit him
in July & now finally he is 'home' at Lizzies's Barn. We hope it wont be too long
until he will be ready to find his own forever home.

15/11/2010 Please pray for these babies
Please pray for these poor little mites who came in to us today.
Originally a litter of 14, the remaining 9 were brought in today by the kind friends
of their owner who, despite trying his best, simply couldn’t cope.
They all have malnutrition in varying degrees & I just pray we have them in time.
We were advised that they are 8 weeks old, but I very much doubt they are much over
6 weeks old. However looking at their condition they certainly wouldn't have survived
if left where they were..
I just pray that we have them in time.
The one below is the weakest, I shall call him 'CHANCE', because that is all he needs
- a CHANCE to live.
I will name the rest over the next few days & then introduce them you properly.
Believe it or not they are already looking a little better after a day of good food
& warmth. Tomorrow I have to worm them, I am dreading it, often weak puppies become
very ill & even die when wormed. Sadly I have to bite the bullet & go ahead or the
worms will certainly kill them.
This weekend I have been invited to attend an Animal Healing course, I only wish
it had been last weekend, because I feel its a miracle we need for these sweet innocent
babies.
Please come back to this page & watch their progress & pray with me that they will
ALL make it through to find their own families, to love & cherish them for the many
years they should have ahead of them.
Update 24/10/10: We are very sad to tell you that Chance lost his fight last weekend.
The poor little boy was just to weak to keep going.
This sad news was shortly followed by one of Chance's sisters becoming poorly and
having to be attached to a drip for a few days. She has now been called FLISS and
is becoming stronger as time goes on.
Thankfully, the remaining puppies - 4 boys and 3 other girls - are also becoming
stronger and stronger and more like "normal" puppies now! There is always a scrabble
at mealtimes and lots of squeaking and playing going on.
Update 03/11/10: Sadly, Fliss became poorly again and couldn't be saved this time.
We don't know if she had a congenital problem that caused her problems or whether
it was simply the aftermath of extreme malnutrition but she was a very special girl
and she'll be greatly missed.
The other puppies are growing stronger, although there are still a few who are still
too thin. One very kind supporter has named them for us and we are hoping to get
individual photos very soon so that we can introduce them to you properly. It's beginning
to look as if 2 fathers were involved with producing this litter as some of the pups
are black and tan and fluffy (and looking a bit german shepherdy) and some of the
pups are smaller, brindle and a bit finer (and looking a bit whippety) so it will
be interesting to see what they look like as they grow!
Update 13/11/10: The remaining seven puppies continue to thrive and are now looking
for homes. The plan to get individual photos is not going well as they are all so
wiggly and lively, so we'll tell you their names instead: we have 3 girls - Gussie,
Lucy and Linnet - and 4 boys - Spindle, Buster, Jasper and Rupert. Thank you very
much to Chris for the fabulous names.
And now something to cause a bit of a lump in your throat, probably. A (sideways
on!) video of seven healthy puppies playing in the sand school...
And some photos to show just how much better they look compared to the first photos
taken just 3 weeks ago :o)
Update 18/11/10: The first of the puppies has gone off to their forever home! Be
very happy, Little Lucy :o)
Update 11/12/10: Since Lucy has gone home, we've had no home offers at all for these
puppies! Usually, when we have a litter in, they get taken out no individual car
trips and visits, etc so that they get to experience the world at large away from
their siblings. Unfortunately, 10 days ago, we took in a litter of week old babies
and they are currently being handreared, which is a very time consuming job which
doesn't leave as much time to soicalise the lurcher pups. So we've decided to send
them off to foster home for, at least, over Christmas so that they can get these
socialisation skills in place whilst they are still young to learn without worrying
too much.
Today, four puppies went off to three foster homes and we are hoping to quickly settle
the remaining two in at their foster homes. Hopefully, this means that we will very
shortly be able to introduce you to each of the puppies individually with good descriptions
of their individual personalities.
Update 12/12/10: After a chaotic day and a long day of travelling yesterday, Gussie
(aka Jessie) and Rupert - both black and tan puppies - have gone to a fabulous foster
home in Beaminster, Dorset. An initial update says that Rupert is like a baby giraffe
and is quite a confident boy, whereas Gussie/Jessie is slightly more reserved, but
obviusly this may all change as they settle in!
Spindle - a little brindle boy - has gone to a wonderful foster home in Malvern,
Worcs where he will have a very big foster sister! Hopefully, we will have photos
showing the size difference soon.
Linnet - a little brindle girl - has gone to an amazing foster home in Nantwich,
Cheshire where she has a lovely foster mum who has a great deal of puppy training
experience, so we have high hopes of Linnet becoming the best trained puppy in the
litter ;o)
Update 13/12/10: Spindle's foster parents have fallen in love with him and are going
to be adopting him. His name is going to be changed to Teal :o) Be very very happy
little man.
Update 02/01/11: Linnet has gone to her new home :o) Have a wonderful life, little
girl.
And we now have just 4 puppies left looking for their homes: Flower, Jasper, Jessie
and Rupert.
