Thank you for your interest in adopting a Lizzie’s Barn Sanctuary Dog.
The majority of the dogs we take in have been referred to us because are troubled, or broken, in some way due to previous neglect, illness, abuse, or trauma, most of our work is in rehabilitating these dogs, mending them physically and emotionally, providing a safe environment, where they can learn to relax while we teach them to trust again and to learn appropriate behaviours and bridging strategies. Many will remain with us for the rest of their lives. Some however will eventually be ready for new homes.
The restrictions of the pandemic have we have been unable to work with dogs in public amongst ‘normal’ life. this means we don’t currently have anything suitable for rehoming. Sadly however we are seeing an increase in requests to take in more dogs without and without issues, so the situation may change in the near future. As dogs become available they will be listed here. Please check in from time to time,
We don’t have hard and fast rules, they will depend on the dog in question, and the situation of the family. Our aim is to find the best homes for our dogs, which means listening to your needs and doing our best to ensure a good match, good honest communication is the key. You may like to complete our questionnaire so that we have your details on file, this is available on request.
Due to the volume of calls we receive, to speed up your inquiry please make your initial inquiries by email. We will send you our pre-adoption questionnaire, which we require you to complete If you really can’t email, then please telephone Fionna on 07976 538588
NB: You will not gain any advantage by telephoning, everyone needs to complete the pre-adoption questionnaire, dogs go to the best home for them, not the first to enquire.
The majority of the dogs are at the Sanctuary.
Potential adopters are expected to travel to Lizzie’s Barn Sanctuary near Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, unless otherwise stated, to meet/collect their chosen dog.
All potential homes will be vetted and a set donation is payable upon adoption. Dogs will have been assessed and vet checked and, unless advised otherwise, will have been neutered, vaccinated as appropriate, micro-chipped, etc prior to adoption.
Important Note: It goes without saying that ALL dogs should be supervised around children, and ALL children should be taught how to behave with and around dogs. Tail pulling, poking, sitting on, or climbing on dogs is NEVER acceptable behaviour. Families with children wishing to adopt will be asked to demonstrate they have considered and begun teaching the children how to behave with, and around dogs. We are happy to help you with this
